The Designers Show - Day 3 (4/11/2006)

XQ Zhang

Simple wrap dresses and baggy pants in 100% silk, this exquiste collection from Vietnamese designer Zhang Xiaoqing covers a lady's entire wardrobe, from day wear to elegant evening wear.

Bennu Sehgall Originals

The models strutted out like Arabian princesses in champagne, nude and tan coloured flowy Saris by Indian designer Bennu Sehgall. You have to look at the pieces upclose to realise that the hand-sewn crystals are really huge.

Allure & Individual Expression

Individual Expression Spring Summer 2007 collection "Carnival Spirit" is full of empire line tops and dresses that are worn with cropped jackets. There is a lot of textured wovens, yarn dyed checks and festive florals in bright colours such as coral, tomato, acqua blue and tropical lime.

For Allure's collection "Romantic Retro", timeless black, white and red are played off against each other for a strong contrasting palette.

GG<5

The Spring/Summer 07 collection of GG<5 uses clean lines and simple pleats to get that lightless and airiness, almost like a graceful ballerina. Simplicity of the collections' silhouette is highlighted by the purity of white and neutrality of grey punctuated with shades of navy as key colour.

Did you know that GG<5 actually stands for "Generation Gap less than 5"? The brand philosophy is not to care about age, gender or race for women.

Perfect In Black

Arguably the best designer show in terms of entertainment value, the show was full of theatrics and drama. It was like watching a musical!

For one, the runway was lined with roses shrubs and we were given a stalk of rose as our welcome gift.

A goth bride strutted in with burning black candles and the rest of the models appeared on the runway among ladders and through smoky dry ice effect. Tim Burton would be very happy.

There were weeping women, chairs, capes, black lace, lingerie and errrm, a whip. Very S&M.

The finale was the black wedding gown modelled by Jade Cole, complete with a black veil and black roses. The goth bride even lay herself to rest. How's that for drama?

And add a wonderful end to the designers show with a shower of rose petals!

The entertainment value was there. But it definitely distracted us from the gorgeous, sexy yet mysterious black clothes.
