Jonathan Leong, saunters into the meeting room with 3 journalists.
It was a day after the results of Singapore Idol were announced. He didn't win, but he looked tired and in terrible need of sleep.
He had his cup of coffee (could be Milo) in front of him, greeted and shook the hands of the journalists earnestly.
He was the same 24-year-old guy with the deep and lazy voice that this reporter met 4 months ago at another press conference. But he's a different man now. He has gone through countless interviews and photoshoots, he has performed in front of a 9,000 strong audience and he has so many supporters that it's probably impossible to know every one of their names.
And that is the mark of a star.
So tell us Jonathan, when you woke up this morning what was the first thing on your mind?
I checked the time, was hungry so I was looking for food. Well, I think Hady [Mirza, winner of Singapore Idol] would have been very tired and still have to wake up for the interviews, so I felt a bit relieved.
How does it feel to be in the Top 2?
Great! Very happy!
Did you expect yourself to be in the Top 2?
No, I mean I wanted it just like Hady, we always say we must work really hard to be at the Indoor Stadium. Which we did, so we accomplished our goal. It feels great.
You seem to be enjoying yourself on stage, which performance during results show did you enjoy the most?
Electrico. They're one of my favourite local bands together with The Observatory.
And what is the feeling of performing in front of 9000 people?
That was great and phenomenal. It's a dream come true, I never imagined that I'll [be able to] do that and I'm going to do it again for the Hype Up 2006 concert.
What's going through your mind when the results were announced?
I was very happy for Hady.. really very happy for him.
Were you disappointed with the margin of votes (70-30)?
No. It's a blessing to have reach the Indoor Stadium.
It's true. But were you expecting a tough fight, instead of a landslide victory for Hady?
I think it's a voting competition so Singapore chose their idol... and it's fine lah, I'm happy with what I have.. don't be greedy y'know.
