Hady Mirza is a busy man now. Shortly after he was crowned the second Singapore Idol, we had arranged for an interview with him. But his busy schedules, rehearsals and album recordings kept him away from us for more than 3 weeks.
But worry not fans. He manage to squeeze out precious interview time for
Youth.SG and so we jetted off (
er okay, we took a cab...) to his top-secret recording studio (yes, we really can't say) where he was taking a break from recording his debut album.
This Idol has no airs and is a really down-to-earth chap. He even created an email to reply to fan mail recently. Of course a lot of people who got the email were doubtful that he's the real Hady. But now you know, Hady really replies to his fan mail personally.

He also peered at this reporter's digital recorder and asks innocently: "What's that?"
A recorder, I replied.
"Ooohhh..."
He talks animatedly (his hands often waving wildly in the air), cracks jokes and throws in a lot of anecdotes in between answering the questions. He says that he just loves to talk even if he's asked the same questions over and over again.
That's great because we all love a jovial Idol.
Hady tell us how does it feel 3 weeks after the results? You're the Singapore Idol!
Well, it sunk in last week. I don't remember much because everything went by so fast. The few days after [the results] was going to the offices of Universal and Hype, meeting the people I'm going to work with.
I have to get comfortable really quickly because a lot of work has to done chop-chop. But I'm quite pleased right now, everyone is like a family and I feel really good.
I'm kept busy everyday which is what I want to do. A simple reason because I think creativity dies out if you wait.
Other than Singapore Idol, did you take part in any other singing competitions?

I tried for Talentime the last time but I didn't get through the first round. I remember it was at Wheelock Place and Najib Ali was in the booth and they said no, I was like ok.
That time I was still serving my National Service and I reckon it would be really tough.
I'm glad that everything worked out this time round. I'm really happy.
Now you could very well be the last and final Singapore Idol, since there are rumours saying that the show might be cancelled. What are your thoughts on that?
I don't think that Singapore Idol is the only way for Singapore to discover talents. There are so many other avenues.
It doesn't really bother me that they say I'm the last Singapore Idol or there's going to be another one. A lot of people say a lot of things and you can never expect what's going to happen in the future.

For me, getting the title right now is probably the best thing that has ever happened in my life so far. It is definitely a life-changing moment. You know when you go through life, there's this moment that changes everything.
This is it.
So does it mean that you're a new Hady?
Not exactly. I think you need change in your life.
Let's say some people might be contended to be a postman for the rest of their life. But I wouldn't.
So you'll want to be a Postal Director perhaps?
Well that's not too bad.
I'm sure Singaporeans as a whole they all have the ambition and they're all aiming for the top spot.
