Why else do they do the things they do?
Colin, from
Fabrixcases, does it because he finds a sad lack of beautiful laptop cases in the market.
Paul James, of
Works Original, who does paintings, T-shirts and 3D works, says, "It's more the experience of painting it...I'll, maybe, line all the T-shirts up on the floor...and just take my paint and just kind of do it without thinking about it too much. My inspiration is just there at the moment when I do it. You know what I mean?" This artist, who is actually a researcher at National University of Singapore (NUS), says he does it "for fun la."
"I like to create...and it's really great when you see people buying your designs and actually using it," says
Sharene, creator of customised
Wahtever! bags.
If I had the time and money, I'd probably have bought the place down. If not for the unique item, then out of sheer support for struggling local artists who stick to their passion. Personally, I'm glad such people exist in Singapore. I think makes us so much more of a creative and artistic community than just "the world's next arts hub and renaissance city". Next chance I've got, I want to go MAAD too!
MAAD will be held every first weekend of the month. Be sure to mark out 7 and 8 July on your calender! Visit their website
