The last time this dance music maestro stepped onto local soil was in September last year. Back then, Zouk hit full house even before the clock struck eleven, and an entire line of people who had queued up had to be sadly turned away.
This time around, people were still walking in hassle-free, even after midnight. Total count: about 2800. It was a Sunday, and clearly there is good reason to stay indoors on the day before work dives early into routine once again. Then again, Paul Van Dyk started spinning at the unearthly hour (by DJ standards) of 11pm, presumably for office-bound mortals like us.
And to cater to those who were lucky enough to have evaded work (or at least its early hours), or who wouldn't have missed Van Dyk for the world, he ended the set at almost four in the morning. If you're still wondering why he could only make it on a Sunday, well, the reason is because he was playing at the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan before heading down to Singapore; Sunday was the only day he was available. Thanks to Zouk and the man himself for making it happen!
VAN DYK SHOWS SOME LOVE
"GOOD STUFF!"
CLUBBERS HARD AT WORK DESPITE THE LACK OF SPACE
From the outside, the night seemed uneventful. It was only when you stepped into Zouk that you could feel the ambience and energy throbbing in the atmosphere.
GOODNESS FROM A BUNCH OF KEYS
It was packed in Zouk. Dancing had to be kept to a minimum; one could barely move. Van Dyk dropped a good mix of tracks at the set but while some were really splendid (the kinds that make your hair stand on end), others sounded monotonous and repetitive. We applaud him for getting us on our feet though.
Here's a tiny, tiny peek at what you missed during his nearly five hour long gig:
Giuseppe Ottaviani - No More Alone
Filo and Peri with Eric Lumiere - ShineOn (Club Mix)
Paul van Dyk & Starkillers & Austin Leeds feat. Ashley Tomberlin - New York City (Super Eight & Tab Remix)
VAN DYK FEELS THE HEAT. IT'S NOT EASY SPINNING.
