If you are eager to catch a sneak preview of Royston Tan’s latest film 12 Lotus before it hits local screens on Aug 14, head down to the 12 Lotus Concert this Saturday on National Day (Aug 9).
Youth.SG was granted an exclusive media preview last Friday and it was a riot.
Lending his vocals for the media showcase was popular singer Wu Jiahui. Though he will not be involved in the concert come National Day, he gamely did a new number 'Cun Bu Bu Li' (Stranded) from the yet-to-be-released movie soundtrack.
The theme song for 12 Lotus, 'Tia Gong Lang' (Love Fools), penned by Xiao Han, was also performed for the first time by last season’s Project Superstar runner-up Carrie Yeo.
Featuring 19 artistes (such as The AMPs and Jim Lim) performing 20 songs over two hours, the concert will comprise of three phases with a getai era morphing into the 881 movie theme and finally transiting into 12 Lotus.
You can expect a dose of “hip hok”, a term coined by the movie’s musical director Eric Ng. Popular hokkien songs like 'Jit Pat Ban' (loosely translated as 'One Million') will be given a local flavour. Plans are underway to market these "hip hok” songs beyond Singaporean shores, so say the organisers.
Eric, who previously worked together with Royston on his unabashedly belt-out-loud musical movie 881, promised a good show: “It will be a concert of different styles - R&B, hip hop and even house. It is not only a concert but a musical and it would appeal to those who love hokkien songs. It’s a warm-hearted concert and a bit emo.”
The 12 Lotus concert happens at Singapore Expo Max Pavilion on Aug 9, 3pm.
