What does the entire nation lust after every Aug?

Hint: it contains an assortment of goodies.

What else, if not the National Day Parade (NDP) 2009 funpack?

Unlike NDP 2008’s funpack this year’s funpack is a lot more handsome than last year’s and would not put one to a squirming frenzy should this be reused on other occasions.

But this year’s pack is not just good-looking. Environmentally friendly with less plastic packaging, the pack also includes a ‘green’ poncho from recycled materials. Ironically, a plastic bag is included… but only because parade addicts can stuff their rubbish and dispose of them responsibly.

Soya bean retailer Mr Bean even offers discounts in return for recyclable goodies such as drums and lanterns.

THE COVETED ITEM!

The goods!

The messenger bag, which is convertible into a tote bag with a removable velcro flap, comes in eight colours.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Chow Wai Yein, chairman of the NDP 2009 stage committee, they have “experimented with many colours” and “done many market surveys” to come up with a fun and functional design together with the chosen colours.

This year’s funpack includes:
- chocolate cream roll, one packet
- chocolate cream crackers, one packet
- fruity candies, one packet
- dino gummies, one packet
- mineral water, two bottles
- green tea, one packet
- isotonic drink, one packet
- hand-shaped drum, one
- NDP 2009 tattoos (including an exclusive Eu Yan Seng tattoo!)
- heart-shaped lantern, one
- poncho, one
- peach-scented wet tissues, one packet
- plastic bag, one
- miniature Singapore flag, one

ONE FUN PACK, NUMEROUS GOODIES. MODELS NOT INCLUDED

Love is the special ingredient

About 500 of the goodie bags are packed with the help of several voluntary welfare organisations under Community Chest such as the Rainbow Centre, Lighthouse School (for visual and hearing impaired students) and the Spastic Children’s Association of Singapore School.

This means the funpacks pack a personal touch this year, with volunteers getting an involving themselves with constructive activities.

"FOR $15, YOU GET THIS!"

In addition to that, anyone who makes a $15 contribution to ComChest can own a special edition funpack. There are only 10,000 of such bags. These are available from Jul onwards and can be bought online  or at upcoming roadshows. D
