I’ll be the first to admit.

I have never heard of Florence & the Machine. And I thought The xx was a misspelling of Vin Diesel’s movie title (xXx).

Imagine how clueless I was after the editor told me they were dropping by Singapore and that Youth.SG was going to do a promo for them.

Thank goodness for Google and press releases! Florence is actually Florence Welch. The frontwoman has been hailed as “the most peculiar and most highly acclaimed female singer of the moment” by UK daily (she does have a strange voice...) The Machine is Florence’s backing band which consists of guitar, drums, harp, keyboards and bass. With their debut album, Lungs, Florence & the Machine won the Best Breakthrough Act at last year’s UK Festival Awards.

Their accompanying act for the night, The XX, is a 3-piece band hailing from London. Known for their rather quiet debut album (it was recorded in their garage), be prepared for a night of strange but yet entertaining performances!
