 Oh such glee!
YOG athletes certainly have something new to look forward to when August rolls around: a new smart phone courtesy of Samsung! Yeap, you got that right, they get to keep the phone.
The Korean electronics giant announced last Friday that it would provide over 5,000 sets of the OmniaLITE to all athletes and key team officials as part of its commitment to Singapore 2010 as a Worldwide Partner and Presenting Partner of the Digital Concierge.
And because we can no longer live through a day without updating or checking for updates on our Facebook and Twitter accounts, SingTel will complement the smart phones with a 30GB data bundle for all athletes and team officials to stay in touch with family and friends back home.
The data bundle will also provide smooth access to the “Digital Concierge” application that is basically a one-stop information centre for all Singapore 2010 related information.
The application will ensure that better communication channels are in place for a smooth running game by providing personalised schedules, maps to training and competition venues, real-time game results at their fingertips, as well as Singapore 2010 news.
"We hope to bring timely, accurate and interesting information to the
Games," said Mr Gregory Lee, president and chief executive officer of Samsung Asia Pte Ltd, on the application that was designed exclusively
for Singapore 2010.

THE LAUNCH OF DIGITAL CONCIERGE WAS JAM-PACKED WITH LOTS OF FUN:

I personally think that using a mobile device to support information for all game-related information is brilliant; I mean, with over 18 competition venues in
place, who has the ability to keep track, right? Bravo!
While the downside is that the application only comes in two languages, English and French, it makes up for this shortcoming with a
multi-lingual dictionary that provides translation for seven other languages including Italian, Chinese, and Russian.
I tried my hands at the “Digital Concierge” and found it comprehensive and user-friendly
but unfortunately, it has yet to be made available for diehard fans of
Singapore 2010; instead, you will have to make do with the mobile
version of the games website for now.

Well,
I don’t know about you but with all these goodies in store, it sure
makes me feel that I want to be a YOG athlete too! (But that’s just wishful thinking, though).

Olympic Games Organising Committee jointly developed the “Digital Concierge” with their partners, Samsung and SingTel. ET
