Kiseki is far from offering a full buffet of authentic Japanese food. Instead, they offer what Singaporeans think is Japanese food.

But with an offering of more than 200 buffet items to satisfy the hungry Singaporean stomachs and prices that don’t pinch, it’s no wonder people are all flocking to Kiseki. If you’re like me (and have a stomach the size of a hamster) but still want to be able to eat your worth, here’s a game plan:

Round 1: Everyone loves seafood, sashimi and sushi

I don’t know a single soul who does not like to eat either of the above mentioned. At Kiseki, the seafood, sashimi (fresh raw seafood) and sushi are served in unlimited portions and will never run out as long as your stomach can keep on going.

ANY FRESHER YOU'LL HAVE TO FISH THEM YOURSELF

Help yourself to endless supply of salmon, tuna, swordfish, squid, crab, scallops, mussels and more! (PS: I personally thought the tuna was the best out of the lot.)

Round 2: Add some curry flavour

NEVER SAY NO TO PIPING HOT CURRY RICE

If you’re a fan of Japanese curry, you will not be able to resist a piping hot bowl of curry served with piping hot rice. The Kiseki curry is slightly spicier than the normal Japanese curry, albeit it will suit Singaporean’s taste buds better. But this sweet and spicy concoction is a must-try even for those who like to perspire while eating curry.

Round 3: Have yourself some nabe and yakitori

Take a break from all the carbs from the rice and treat your palette to a refreshing bowl of nabe (hot pot).

CHOICES, CHOICES, FULL OF HOTPOT CHOICES

Choose from Japanese classics like beef sukiyaki and pork shabu-shabu. And to top it off, pair the soup with a selection of yakitori (bite-size skewer foods). My personal favourites: ladyfinger, shitake mushroom, scallop and squid.

Round 4: Always save space for dessert

There’s always space for dessert no matter how stuffed you are; especially if desserts include an all-famous tofu cheesecake and two fondue choices! (Must try: roasted chestnuts dipped in white chocolate fondue. I kid you not.)

DOWN A SHOT OF DESSERT

Or if you’re a fan of neither, try any of the tapas neatly presented in shot glasses to end off the meal on a sweet note.

By the time you are scraping the tofu cheesecake off your plate, you should have KO-ed. (I know, I did.) But you’ll also be very satisfied that you just ate such a sumptuous lunch for a very reasonable price.

And if you’re up for it, the Kiseki dinner offers an even richer spread of food that includes red meat and even lobster crabs! CE

Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant is located at The Heeren, Basement 1. Lunch hours are from 11.30am to 3pm and dinner hours are 6pm to 10.30pm. Prices for lunch start from $19.80+++ and dinner start from $29.80+++. For more information, please call 6736 1216.
