Youth.SG is on an Idol roll.
Jonathan Leong,
Hady Mirza,
Taufik Batisah,
Olinda Cho and now
Hype Up 2006 concert. (Not that we're complaining of course.)
We trotted down to Singapore Indoor Stadium on the Hari Raya Puasa evening (24 October 2006) to watch our favourite Idols from both seasons perform on the same stage.
Sure, the turnout wasn't as fantastic as the Idol finales - there were large pockets of empty seats around the stadium - but the crowd gathered are still here to support them. Many came in their Hari Raya best too!
Where were the fanclubs though? Spotted with big banners are from the Jonathan Leong and Sylvester Sim's teams. Are they taking a holiday?
Hady Mirza
Singapore Idol Hady, dressed smartly in a blazer suit and white sneakers
a la Usher, burst onto the stage with a shower of confetti and one of his Idol performance songs "
Freedom". Yes, he was dancing suavely along with the backup dancers. Not the quiet and laidback Hady we're used to.
He sang 2 more songs "
Knocks Me Off My Feet" and "
Lagenda" - the song that made us cry, even if we don't understand what it meant.
Daphne Khoo
Before Daphne came on, the big screens showed her childhood photos and her metamorphosis into a lady.
Known for her love of dance too,
she auditioned for "The Dance Floor" with her pals to form the group Snaap. At the concert, she sang and dance to Ciara's "
Get Up!".
She got her groove going but her voice is too cute for the song. To top it off, she did a dirty dance with a male dancer to the crowd's wolf-whistles which I reckon to be a little risqué for her sweet and wholesome image. Child pornography? Afterall, didn't we just see her childhood photos?
She did a whole PR spiel by wishing "Selamat Hari Raya" and thanking a long list of people. Told you she's a sweet girl.
Then she went all rock chick on us and sang us her own composition "
Paper", which is about relationships.
Sylvester Sim
Sylvester sang only one song off his Chinese album, "
所以" (Because) to the disappointment of fans. (Maybe it has something to do with his termination of contract with Hype Records?) Nonetheless, he jumped off the stage and mingled with the crowd before introducing his friends from Superband, Lucify.
Lucify
The goth rockers from Superband, decked out in black clothes, heavy makeup and thick chains gave and a rock out affair to the show.
They sang a total of 3 songs which included Linkin Park's "
Faint" and Bon Jovi's "
It's My Life" which saw Daphne and Sylvester rocking out with them. Sylvester came dressed like a goth bride - complete with dangling earrings on one side, purple striped leggings, boots and a black gown-like dress.
