I'm sure the Baybeats fans are all psyched up about the event now. You
could be supporting the local music scene, or a band in particular; it
doesn't matter. Youth.SG is also extremely excited about Baybeats 2007
and is (secretly) pleased that we are getting to know a little more
about the bands before seeing them perform on stage. In this article, King Kong Jane reveals a little of themselves to you.
King Kong Jane was formed when 5 guys who lived in the same hall of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) met. "Like King Kong, [they] can make lots of noise", and "like Jane, [they're] sexy", the band claims; answering the origin of their band name.
The band, who usually jams in a "tiny jamming room at the hall of residence", is grateful for the support they have been receiving. They said that both families and friends have been very supportive and encouraging and that "both family and friends have been to most, if not all, of [their] gigs".
Exploring the possibility of being musicians for a living, King Kong Jane is careful to balance art and the bottom-line. "We can see ourselves doing this for many years to come, but probably not as our only source of income." Who said you can't be practical and pursue your passion at the same time?
Being able to perform at this year's Baybeats "feels great", said King Kong Jane. They feel that "considering how the event is shaping up to be bigger and better than past years", it is a great opportunity for them.
Now that they are given such a 'one-in-a-lifetime' chance to show Singapore they are capable of, King Kong Jane hopes that "Baybeats will help to raise [their] profile in the scene and land [them] more gigs".
Why should we look out for your performance during the show? Showing how cheeky they can get, King Kong Jane said, "Because you've most probably not seen us perform before?"
To tell King Kong Jane how you are going to support them, leave a comment here.
