Gentle Blends with Gentle Bones.
Despite being in an art school, the local music scene is something that is foreign to me. However with the rise of local stars such as The Sam Willows and many more, the launch of Costa Coffee With featuring our home-grown art talents was something I highly anticipated.
On Sep 12, Costa Coffee with Gentle Bones was held at a cozy Costa Coffee outlet at Vivo City. Amidst the crowd of excited young adults clamoring for a glimpse of Joel Tan, better known as Gentle Bones, my plus one and I enjoyed the delicious food and beverage catered to us by our generous hosts. With the aromatic scent of coffee and food in the air, the event began.
As a young artiste that started his music career at the youthful age of 16, Joel shared with us his four-year journey to stardom and wooed us with his soulful voice as he crooned out songs such as 'Elusive', 'Settle Down' and 'Lost', a new song from his debut EP (Extended Play). With his gentle voice serenading us, the crowd was lulled with his alluring charisma and soulful lyrics.
"You only live once", he said blushing shyly with a smile lighting up his face, "never be afraid of doing something new."
With the backing and support of friends, family and corporations such as Costa Coffee, Joel is one of many musical talents in Singapore that has managed to enter the art scene.
Founded in 1978, Costa Coffee has been known for the support it gives to local artiste. During the launch of the Costa Coffee With installation, Joel invited fans to attend further installations held at the various Costa Coffee outlets located in Singapore to discover more local talents.
Amidst the excitement and his singing, the introductory session to the coffee was as much a highlight.
During the event, we were also introduced to Costa's 100 per cent Rainforest Alliance certified range of coffee. Boasting fragrant blends, the coffee was aromatic and fragrant, leaving an array of flavors that lingered on my palate. As a coffee lover myself, Costa Coffee's coffee is definitely something that warrants a revisit.
At the conclusion of the event, a quiz was held, revisiting coffee facts that had been relayed to us earlier during the event. The prizes included things such as tote bags autographed by none other than Gentle Bones.
After the session, I simply could not miss the opportunity to take a picture with Joel. With this experience, I await with bated breath for the next installation of Costa Coffee With.
