If this is truly the season of giving, then here are three ways to give more to others.
Glittering Christmas trees and street lights in Orchard Road, coupled with thousands of people scrambling to buy presents for their friends and families – it is clear that Christmas has become a commercialised holiday.
It might be good for us to reflect and ask ourselves, "Is there a better and more fulfilling way to celebrate this festive season?"
Here are three ways to celebrate this Christmas.
1. Volunteer at an old folks home or an orphanage
Spending time with our loved ones is great, but what about those who do not have the chance to be with their loved ones? The elderly in old folks' homes and the children in orphanages would appreciate someone spending time with them.
It will be an eye-opener interacting with them, and you will leave the home feeling two emotions: happy to leave a smile on their faces; and sad, after hearing some stories of abandonment.
Although it is not the grandest or most fun way to celebrate Christmas, it is probably the most fulfilling. After all, what better way to show love than to sacrifice your time to give a total stranger a warm Christmas?

2. Donate to a charity
If you do not have the time to volunteer at an old folks home or an orphanage, you can make a difference simply by donating to charities.
Different charities have different purposes, each with a specific target group. Find one that you would like to support and give a donation to aid their cause. Any amount donated can go a long way in touching the lives of their beneficiaries.
If possible, you could encourage your friends to do the same. A little advertising goes a long way in helping charities that are in need of donations to run their operations.

IT IS NOT THAT HARD TO DONATE SOME MONEY TO A CHARITY, RIGHT?
3. D-I-Y presents
Instead of purchasing dozens of gifts, why not make them yourself instead? From simple ideas like designing your own Christmas cards to crazy ideas like building a truck from coke cans, gifts made straight from the heart will bring joy to your loved ones.

By giving a D-I-Y present, your recipient will know that the present is not just some random gift taken off a store's shelf, but one constructed with love and effort.
If you are musically talented, you can even write a song for someone this Christmas and dedicate it to them online. It takes a lot of time and effort to do this, but it will pay handsome dividends.
Be creative, I am sure there are all sorts of D-I-Y presents you can give!
What do you think? What other fulfilling ways are there to celebrate Christmas?
