Vending machines we want

TrendsTechTravel

Here are some bizarre vending machines that should start making their way here.

It is a surprising fact to many that Singapore is the only country with a mashed potato vending machine. We have further stepped up our game recently by introducing the gold automated teller machines and ceramic vending machines.

Here is our list of other exotic vending machines that need to make their way into Singapore!

1. Flip flop vending machine

Given Singapore's erratic weather, slippers are of utmost importance, especially on days where sudden downpours greet us. Hence, a pair of flip flops is convenient on days where we need to sun our shoes.

We think such vending machines would be popular in places like VivoCity, should people decide on an impromptu trip to the beach.

2. Last minute gift vending machine

If you find yourself running short of time to get souvenirs for your friends while travelling, make a stop at Utique, the world's first automated luxury shop.

From exotic accessories like alcohol breathalyzers for iPhones, to plushies such as the oh-so-cute Grumpy cat, it is a one-stop station that supplies gifts for all ages.

Although Singaporeans and foreigners are spoilt for choice in Changi Airport, it surely does not hurt to add a vending machine selling quirky stuff, right?

3. Kindle kiosk

Amazon recently set up a vending machine, instead of investing in a physical shop, to sell its popular Kindles and accessories.

They strategically located this machine in the Las Vegas airport to supply the oh-so-important power adapter for travellers! Although Kindles are not part-and-parcel of every Singaporean's lives (yet), it is gaining a fair amount of attention and support locally.

How great it would be if such a kiosk exists here!

4. Green book vending machine

The existence of paperback book vending machines might not be foreign to you, but how does a recycled book vending machine sound?

A Canadian woman came up with this unconventional concept where people can drop their unwanted books into this machine, and avid readers can grab these books at a mere amount of S$2.81 (US$2) each.

The sheer excitement of dispensing a book at a cheap price is enough to intrigue us. How does this sound for the Read Festival Singapore next year?

5. Vending machine restaurant

Japan is well-known for creating bizarre vending machines, but nothing can beat their ultimate vending machine restaurant. In fact, a self-service ordering machine is all you need for a bowl of steaming ramen.

This concept has also made its way into Amsterdam, Netherlands. Producing burgers and Dutch snacks from the wall is what this particular restaurant, Febo, does.

I would love to try this out someday!

Whether the idea of vending machine restaurants is just a fad, curious Singaporeans will probably make a beeline nonetheless.
