Fun things you can do at SHINE Festival this weekend

We round up 13 free things worth checking out at the festival!

Annual youth festival SHINE Festival 2017 is back with a bang to celebrate the people that matter the most. Us youths, of course!

Organised by the National Youth Council, this year's festival, themed #OwnYourDreams, features an exciting mix of live music performances, interactive art installations, and even online gaming booths.

Here's our round-up of free activities you should check out this weekend:

If you want to play free games, 

Head down to ION Orchard to challenge yourself to online games such as Vainglory, Need For Speed, FIFA and Injustice. 

You can play these games at the Vainglory booth near ION Orchard, and the Console Gaming Exhibition Stage located at Orchard Cineleisure over the weekend.

Chill on the bean bags while playing your favourite games.

If you are not a fan of e-sports, check out the whimsical Eraser Cup at We Are Majulah's booth, at Ngee Ann City. 

Catch various teams competing against each other during a game of Vainglory.

Or get your hands busy at the #FreeToPlay booth at Ngee Ann City, which features old school arcade games such Dance Dance Revolution and a claw machine.

You can redeem a free slushie at this booth – just pick a game and go! Perfect for the hot weather.

If you're in the mood for live music,

Thanks to the star-studded acts lined up this weekend, be sure to come early to chope a good spot.

Highly anticipated acts include former Girls' Generation member Jessica Jung's performance on Saturday (Jul 1, 10pm), who will be singing a duet with Singaporean singer Natalie Ong.

Don't forget to show some love for our local acts The Sam Willows (Jul 1, 9pm), Gentle Bones (Jul 1, 6.30pm), Shigga Shay (Jul 1, 8.15pm), Sezairi (Jul 2, 7.15pm), and THELIONCITYBOY (Jul 2, 9.15pm) too.

You can also purchase merchandise at the Artist's Merchandise booth, with prices starting from $3.

Immerse yourself in live music from talented artists at ION Stage.

Or swing by the *SCAPE Bandstand to get first dibs on up-and-coming talents.

Want to produce your own beats? You can do so at the GET YO' OWN BEAT booth!

Alternatively, play a musical game at the Stored Value booth, where you can have fun making interesting sounds by tapping your EZ-Link cards.

If you just want to have fun with your friends, 

Create some memories with your friends at the GIF Booth with cute props like funky sunglasses, hats and pom poms. You also get to bring home a soft copy of your GIF and a hard copy photo for memories' sake.

Bring out your inner child and have a go at digital colouring at the Psychedelic Tunnel booth. Unleash your creativity and go crazy – no one will judge you.


Or get up close and personal with local celebrities at the Ball Pit Wonderland, where you will get
to ask them any burning questions you may have.

If you want to do good, 

Sign up for volunteering opportunities and helps others for a change.

Some notable causes worth checking out local organisations Hush TeaBar, which allows you to connect with the Deaf community and encourages you to think about silence in a different way. Or check out Trybe, an organisation that empowers troubled youths to create their own success stories.

SHINE Festival, which is part of the Youth Month celebrations, is happening from June 30 to Jul 2! Come down with your friends to soak in some good vibes.
