Four activities for hanging out with friends during Phase 2

You can still hang out with your friends while being away from crowded malls.

Over the weekend, Singapore moved into Phase 2 of its exit from the circuit breaker. As soon as Friday rolled around, my Instagram feed was filled with interaction-starved friends meeting up with one another in shopping malls. 

After being nearly empty for two months, shopping malls are starting to fill up again with many people running errands or meeting up with friends. But you don't need to limit your meetups to shopping centres. 

If you are meeting up with your friends anytime soon, here are four activities you can do without crowding at malls

1. Have a small picnic in the park  

Instead of having dinner at a mall, opt for a fun picnic with your friends instead. You can save money by preparing your own food from home or everyone can bring something to share like a potluck.

You can also dress up nicely to take your post-circuit breaker #OOTD since picnic mats make nice backgrounds.

Some great picnic spots that you could go to are Marina Barrage, Hort Park and Botanic Gardens. These well-known picnic spots are big enough to ensure there's some distance between you and other people on outings. 

2. Go for a bike ride and enjoy some fresh air 

Now that parks are reopened, you can go for a bike ride with your friends and take in the scenery on a cycling trail.

If you have a friend who still doesn't know how to ride a bike (it's me, I'm the friend), this is the perfect opportunity to teach them! 

Bring your beginner friend out to a park near you and enjoy some fun quality time! 

3. Invite your friends over to your house 

Some of us have adjusted to staying home so well that it could be difficult to find the energy to dress up and go out.

If you are one of these people or, let's be real, you are just too lazy to go out, how about inviting friends over to your house instead?

Households can receive up to five visitors at a time, so pick five friends that you know won't leave your house in a mess and do some bonding activities. 

You can do relaxing activities like painting and making crafts, or show off the baking skills you picked up during the circuit breaker. 

4. Get back into shape at a fitness class with friends 

Fitness junkies are probably itching to hit the gym again after being limited to home workouts for so long. If you have not been working out regularly at home, sign up for a fitness class with your friends for a calorie-burning bonding activity.

Fitness classes have fewer slots available than usual, in order to adjust to the safe-distancing measures, so be sure to keep a look for the sign-ups when they are released! 

While we are all excited to meet our friends again after two months, remember to adhere to safe-distancing measures when hanging out, and keep your friend group at a maximum of five people!
