Student gamers from IHLs will be competing in League of Legends and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang this year.

The Singapore Cybersports & Online Gaming Association (SCOGA) recently announced that its inter-tertiary eSports tournament, Campus Legends, will be back for its second season!

Supported by partners including the National Youth Council, ITE College Central and Republic Polytechnic, Campus Legends was created to encourage, educate and empower youths to excel through eSports.

The competition allows students from local Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), such as polytechnics, ITE and universities, to showcase their talents and learn more about different careers in the eSports industry.

The inaugural season of Campus Legends in 2019 saw student gamers compete in game titles such as League of Legends and FIFA 19

More than 95,000 viewers tuned in live for competition broadcasts while hundreds of participants turned up for eSports performance and industry workshops last year.

This season, student gamers will be able to compete, once again, in League of Legends and the popular Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

The top four teams in each game title can look forward to winning attractive cash and product prizes, including the latest flagship products from Campus Legends' Official Partners, Samsung and JBL.

Just like last season, half of the cash prizes will be awarded as scholarships in the form of Post-Secondary Education Account top-ups to emphasise how important education is in the holistic development of eSports athletes.

In light of COVID-19, the competition will be held fully online, with the first intra-IHL qualifier taking place on Jul 3 for gamers from the National University of Singapore.

Each qualifying round will see student gamers compete for the opportunity to represent their respective IHLs. Winners from each qualifier will then compete in a group stage to advance to the grand finals.

If you're interested to register, you can find more details about competition dates and rules on their website.

Do take note that there must be a minimum of five players from the same institution in one team to register.

The matches will be live streamed, complete with commentary, every competition weekend this season.

Besides gearing up for this year's Campus Legends, SCOGA has worked with its partners to provide laptops for those with urgent needs for their home-based learning during the circuit breaker.

Chairman of SCOGA, Nicholas Khoo, hopes that the organisation and Campus Legends can continue to help and engage student gamers.

He said: "It's really humbling to know that SCOGA can make a difference, not only to local eSports through our various programmes, but also to other aspects of Singaporeans' lives, through the various initiatives the team has stepped up to implement in the past few months and especially during the circuit breaker period.

"I have been told by our partners that many students have benefited from our eSports programmes and I believe Campus Legends will be extra impactful this year!"
