PM Lee Hsien Loong announces new Cabinet following GE2020

Parliament will open on Aug 24.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced his new Cabinet to lead Singapore following the Singapore General Election 2020.

There will be 37 office holders in total. PM Lee said the new Cabinet is a balance between continuity, exposure and renewal.  

Parliament will open on Aug 24. 

The following appointments will remain the same: 

Heng Swee Keat as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. He will also be the Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies. 

Gan Kim Yong will remain as Minister of Health, Josephine Teo as Minister of Manpower, S Iswaran as Minister of Communications and Information, Chan Chun Sing as Minister of Trade and Industry, K Shanmugam as Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Law and Ng Eng Hen as Minister of Defence. 

Senior Ministers Teo Chee Hean and Tharman Shanmugaratnam will retain their appointments as Coordinating Minister for National Security and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies respectively. 

There are several new appointments: 

Grace Fu is the new Minister for Sustainability and Environment (renamed from Environment and Water Resources). 

Lawrence Wong is the new Minister for Education. He will also remain as the Second Minister for Finance, and continue to co-chair the Multi-Ministry Taskforce tackling COVID-19. 

Masagos Zulkifli is the new Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Health. He continues to be the Minister‐in-charge of Muslim Affairs. 

Ong Ye Kung is the new Minister for Transport.

Desmond Lee is the new Minister for National Development. However, he will continue to remain in the Ministry of Social and Family Development and is concurrently appointed as Minister‐in-charge of Social Services Integration. 

Edwin Tong is promoted to a full Minister and appointed as Minister for Culture, Community and Youth. He is also the Second Minister of Law. 

Indranee Rajah is appointed as the Second Minister for National Development. She will also remain as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance. 

Dr Tan See Leng is appointed as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry.

Five other Ministers apart from Edwin Tong have also been promoted:

Dr Maliki Osman is promoted to full Minister. He is appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Education and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs. 

Zaqy Mohamad is promoted to Senior Minister of State. He remains at the Ministry of Manpower and takes up an additional appointment at the Ministry of Defence. 

Low Yen Ling is promoted to Minister of State. She takes up new appointments at the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and at the Ministry of Trade and Industry. She will also remain as Mayor of South West District. 

Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim is promoted to Minister of State. He takes up new appointments at the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of National Development. 

Sun Xueling is promoted to Minister of State. She takes up new appointments at the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.

A few office holders will be given new appointments to help them gain exposure:

Dr Amy Khor is appointed Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport. She will also continue in the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment. 

Sim Ann is appointed Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of National Development. She will also continue in the Ministry of Communications and Information. 

Chee Hong Tat is appointed Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Transport. 

Dr Janil Puthucheary is appointed Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Health. He will also continue in the Ministry of Communications and Information. 

Dr Koh Poh Koon is appointed Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Health. 

There will be several new political office holders: 

Gan Siow Huang is appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Manpower. 

Desmond Tan is appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment. 

Tan Kiat How is appointed Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of National Development. He will also be chairman of REACH (Reaching everyone for active citizenry @ home). 

Eric Chua is appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the Ministry of Social and Family Development. 

Rahayu Mahzam is appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health (from Sept 1).
